The Reconciliation Service was originally scheduled to be on Thursday as listed in the bulletin. However, the date has been changed to Wednesday night, March 28, at 6:00 p.m. as announced at Mass this morning. Please make a note of the change.

Wednesday night Mass will be at the usual time, 7:00 p.m., after the Reconciliation Liturgy.

Fr. Don has scheduled a Reconciliation Liturgy with a visiting priest at 6 PM on Thursday [correction] Wednesday. 

As followers of Jesus, we need to examine our lives and recognize our sinful thoughts, words, deeds and omissions so that we can bring them to God for forgiveness.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the ordinary way to have our sins forgiven. It is through confession that we will grow closer to God and lead a more balanced, Christ-centered lifestyle.

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 Jn 1:8)

I write to you concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States directly, and that strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the USCCB, sharply criticized the decision by the Obama administration in which it "ordered almost every employer and insurer in the country to provide sterilization and contraceptives, including some abortion-inducing drugs, in their health plans....Never before has the federal government forced individuals and organizations to go out into the marketplace and buy a product that violates their conscience. This shouldn't happen in a land where free exercise of religion ranks first in the Bill of Rights."

With the changes taking place within the Diocese, I have been reflecting about my experiences in coming to South Carolina. 

I want to thank all my parishioners from St. Mary’s for their southern hospitality. Thank you for teaching me the all the “American” ways on how to live, eat and work.
I value all the experiences we’ve shared together; our laughter and tears have contributed to my continued spiritual growth. 

Physically, I may not be here in Edgefield but my heart will always have a special place for you. I can never forget the simple lifestyle and elegance of your beautiful historic town. 

St. Mary’s Church is an important part of the Edgefield community and needs your vibrant spirituality as you continue to grow. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and continue to live and pray in the way of the Lord.

Dear Parishioners,

Another calendar year has come to a close and 2012 awaits us with hope for the future. As I look back over 2011, I marvel at what the Lord has done for all of us. I feel a deep sense of gratitude to God for placing me here as your pastor. This past year has been exciting for me to see all the new growth in our parish as many new faces fill our pews.

We’ve spent most of the year strengthening the devotional life of our parish and community. This past year was one where I witnessed a more unified community, something so important to us all. I see wonderful opportunities ahead and pray for us to continue to unify our parish. If you have been disappointed or let down by something or someone here at St. Mary’s, let it go and seek the Lord’s peace and move on. Don’t let anything be a barrier to our family unity.

As we begin this New Year, I encourage you to reflect and pray about your unique talents and gifts. Please open your heart to faithfully respond to God’s call to use these talents for the service of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Thank you for helping make 2011 such a memorable year for me. Each of you will be in my prayers over the coming New Year!

The parish will supply hamburgers, hot dogs, plates, utensils, condiments and soft drinks. Please put your name and the number attending on the sign-up sheet at the rear of the church so we know how much to provide. Bring your fishing gear for some catch-and-release fun!
